What does the history of economics have in common with the Matrix, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter? It is not the wardrobe. Nor is it a preference for trilogy. It’s the prophecy.
Dumbledore:
The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches…Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies…and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not…and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives….
Yoda:
Fully defeated by just anyone, the dark side cannot be, but only by the Chosen One. And who might be this Jedi? Know I do not, but not yet born is he or she. This much, sense I can. A vessel of pure Force the Chosen One will be, more powerful than any Jedi in history.
Historians of economics are moved by a superstition. The lore has it that one day a great economist will emerge and bring our forgotten community back to the core of economics. The One will end our wars, bring peace to the tribes. The One will make economics whole and better.
I await eagerly for the end of history.
